Atari Jaguar Festival 2001

June 30th - PieperPower Center - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The beginnings of the Midwest Gaming Classic can be directly traced back to Atari Jaguar Festival 2001, or 'Jagfest' as it was known amongst Jaguar enthusiasts. This event, which has a history all its own, was a place for Atari Jaguar fans to enjoy talking about a system which had died too soon. In 2001, the event was organized by the same group behind the Midwest Gaming Classic today and it was opened for all video game systems with a focus on the Jaguar, and the groundwork for the Midwest Gaming Classic as we know it today was officially laid.

Highlights

Some of the Atari Jaguar Festival 2001: Beyond Tempest Highlights were:

  • Jeff Minter, who wrote the incredibly popular game Tempest 2000, signed copies of the game as well as his most recent game at the time Tempest 3000 for people at the show to win
  • The event was the fifth in a series of Jaguar Festivals held annually at different locations throughout the country
  • The event was the largest standalone Jaguar Festival ever
  • For one of only two times, the Jaguar VR Headset -- rumored to be an arcade model -- was shown at the event on a regular Jaguar for people to try out
