Midwest Gaming Classic 2004

May 22-23 - Brookfield Sheraton - Brookfield, Wisconsin

In 2004, the Midwest Gaming Classic changed venues and changed names! The show, in an effort to clarify what it was all about, added the word "Gaming" to its name. This wasn't the only change, as the event was heavily promoted and drew a huge crowd to the largest venue that the show had been at to date with over 1500 people checking out the show.

Highlights

Some of the Midwest Gaming Classic 2004 Highlights were:

  • The event saw the largest increase in attendance between two years, as the 2004 show had over 750% high attendance than the 2003 show
  • Billy Mitchell attends the show and sets a new public world record on the game Donkey Kong, which is officiated by Walter Day. Interestingly, the documentary King of Kong never makes mention of this public appearance.
  • The Underdog Chamber, now a staple of the event, was first introduced at the 2004 show
  • Gene Cunningham of the Illinois Pin Ball Company revealed steps that he had taken to produce the Capcom pinball machine Big Bang Bar in the future -- a few years later, Gene's company would deliver the machines
  • The event teams with a local radio station to give away a Golden Tee arcade machine to one lucky attendee
