Amateur Air Hockey Tournament

Compete against others in the amateur air hockey tournament! Don’t worry, the best in the world will be helping to run the tournament, not play in it!

Azul Tournament

In the game Azul, players take turns drafting colored tiles from suppliers to their player board. Later in the round, players score points based on how they’ve placed their tiles to decorate the palace. Extra points are scored for specific patterns and completing sets; wasted supplies harm the player’s score. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins. Blindfolded Pac-Man (2600)

How high can you score playing Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 blindfolded? They say a blind Pac-Man who sees is better than a sighted Pac-Man who is blind. We’re going to put that to the test in this blindfolded tournament!

Catan Tournament

In CATAN (formerly The Settlers of Catan), players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces. Players build by spending resources (sheep, wheat, wood, brick and ore) that are depicted by these resource cards; each land type, with the exception of the unproductive desert, produces a specific resource: hills produce brick, forests produce wood, mountains produce ore, fields produce wheat, and pastures produce sheep.

Clash: Street Fighter V Championship Edition

The legacy of the classic 2-D fighting game Street Fighter continues! Pick your fighter and take to the screens to punch, kick and Hadouken your way to see if you’re the top of the MGC heap! Qualifying will be held on April 1st during the show, with finals on Sunday, April 2nd. Official times TBD based on player sign up. 64 slots guaranteed open, with potential to add more based on demand. Tournament will be held on the Playstation 4. Tournament Rulebook.

Clash: Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Gaming icons CLASH in the ultimate brawl you can play anytime, anywhere! Do you think YOU are the best Super Smash Bros Ultimate player at the MGC? If so, bust out your GameCube controllers, and team up with your favorite character: LEGENDARY competition awaits! Qualifying will be held on April 1st during the show, with finals on Sunday, April 2nd. Clock Chaos

Clock Chaos is the signature warm up event for the Midwest Gaming Classic! This year, it’s back to it’s original format! Clock Chaos has been created to provide pros and new players alike an awesome pinball tournament to participate in for a few hours on Friday night. Sign up for a slot and then appear at your selected time. You’ll be tasked with playing a single game on a number of pinball machines and then, at 11pm when all players are done, players scores will be compared and the top 12 qualifiers will return to replay ONE game. The number of games involved in Clock Chaos will not be revealed until the start of the tournament to ensure all tournament equipment is ready for the tournament, however at least one EM, one solid state pre DMD and one DMD era machine will be present in a line up of at least five machines! Sign up begins on February 25th at noon!

Hey! Hey! Hey! It’s time to make some CRAAAAAAZY money! Are ya ready? YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH! Well, you won’t be making any real money, but cash is king in the world of crazy taxi. You’ll have 3 minutes to earn as much as you can in the game to become king of the cabbies! HERE WE GO….

Cream City Music Presents: Mega Game Championship

Sponsored by Cream City Music! The MEGA GAME CHAMPIONSHIP is coming to the Wisconsin Center April 1 with over $2000 in prizes on the line courtesy of Cream City Music! Complete three diverse game challenges in Space Invaders (2600), Legend of Zelda (NES) and NBA Jam (SNES) as a timer counts up to see how long it takes! The top six gamers return for a finals hosted by Phil Moore where they have to go head to head for the fastest times on single game challenges. The winner gets $500 and a guitar from Cream City Music! Here’s exactly how it’s going to work: There will be two Mega Game Challenge qualifying areas in Roman’s Qualifying Coliseum. When the judge is ready and all three games are confirmed to be in their ‘ready’ state, the player will press a big green button to start their timer. At this point, they must pick up and complete the following three challenges in any order:

• Space Invaders (2600) – Player must score at least 150 points
• Legend of Zelda (NES) – Player must defeat at least one screen of baddies
• NBA Jam (SNES) – Player must score at least 5 points

At the conclusion of all three challenges, the player must put all controllers down and press the green button to stop their timer. The time that the timer reads is their official time as long as the judge verifies that the above conditions are met. Top six players based on their time when qualifying closes at 5:30pm will move onto the finals at 6pm! These players will then participate in three timed or head-to-head challenges with the same games to determine who is the MEGA GAME CHAMPION! The two players knocked out after the first round will receive $150. The two players knocked out after the second round will receive $300. The final two players will receive $500, with the winner receiving a guitar from Cream City Music!

Crokinole Tournament

Players take turns shooting disks across the circular wooden board by flicking the disks with their fingers. Players try to land their disks in scoring regions on the board, with the highest scoring area the recessed hole in the very center of the board. Each round, each player/side alternately shoots a set number of disks (usually 12 or 8), shooting one disk each turn. An exciting disc-flicking dexterity game. Like tabletop curling or shuffleboard for your fingers. Players: 2-4 | Age: 8+ Estimated playing time: 30 minutes BGG Complexity Rating: 1.24/5

Donkey Kong Country Competition Cart (SNES)

You’ve got 5 minutes to collect as many bananas as you can from this super fun cartridge! The top four in qualifying will face off on the stage to see who the banana king is!

Hatris World Championship

Think you hat what it takes to be the best Hatris player in the world! Join us for the second annual Hatris World Championship at the Midwest Gaming Classic! Anyone is free to play this double elimination style tournament. Stop by before the tournament starts to sign up. THE RULES: Games will be played in Shop 0 / Stage 6. This is the first stage in the game with access to all six types of hats. Two players will play through this single stage, whichever player earns the higher score in the single stage will win the game. Matches will be a best 2-out-of-3 game contest to advance in the tournament. Cashing in helpers at the end of the stage will not be allowed. This will free up helpers to be used during gameplay without penalty on a player’s score. Use them or lose them. At the conclusion of the stage, leave your screen on the cash-in message until the conclusion of the match. As with Classic Tetris matches, the announcers and/or judge will relay the score info to the player who has not finished their stage. Players must wear a hat on their head during gameplay. Get as silly as you want without blocking your vision. Use common sense and don’t break Twitch ToS with your choice of headwear.

Johann Sebastian Joust Tournament

What do you get when you mix the music of Bach with motion controllers? This tournament! Teams of 2 will face the music if they fail to be the last team standing. When the music — J.S. Bach’s ‌Brandenburg Concertos — plays in slow-motion, the controllers are very sensitive to movement. When the music speeds up, the threshold becomes less strict, giving the players a small window to dash at their opponents. If your controller is ever moved beyond the allowable threshold, you’re out! Juniors Air Hockey

For those who are younger who want a chance to play in a totally fun air hockey tournament, this is for you! Stop to sign up before it starts and secure a spot, and then get the chance to go head-to-head with kids in attendance for the show!

King of Tokyo Tournament

In King of Tokyo, you play mutant monsters, gigantic robots, and strange aliens—all of whom are destroying Tokyo and whacking each other in order to become the one and only King of Tokyo.

Magic: Booster Draft

If you’re a fan of Magic, what better way to spend a Friday night than playing a major Friday Night Magic Draft… included with your ticket! For every 8 players, we’re providing TWO boxes of Magic Draft Boosters! Players get 3 Draft Boosters for the Draft, and each group of 8 will get 40 packs for prize support! Special thanks to Slypatch Gaming for hosting this event! Games will be played using the standard Magic Draft format, with three game rounds, and three rounds of play. Magic: Commander Battle for the Wheel

Magic: Legacy Tournament

You asked for it, we’re doing it! We’re at the physical location where Magic: The Gathering was first unveiled, so it only makes sense to use some of the most powerful cards in the history of Magic for a Legacy tournament! Winners will split a guaranteed $400 in Legacy staples, with more prizes being added depending on how many players participate! Please note: Your deck may consist of up to 20% proxies.

 

Magic: Pauper Tournament

Play cards from throughout the history of Magic: the Gathering with Pauper, so long as they were printed as common! We hope you’ll join us for one of the most affordable and fun formats! The winner of this tournament gets $100 in store credit for Slypatch Games, and the prize pool grows with every player participating beyond 8! Please note: Your deck may consist of up to 20% proxies.

Magic: Sunday Commander

Bring your Commander deck and face off against others to see who will be legendary! The top four players will receive a pre-con Commander Deck, with the top player receiving $50 in credit for Slypatch Games! Decks may contain up to 20% proxy cards (including Magic: 30th Anniversary cards!) Tournament timing may change depending on the amount of players.

MGC Cosplay Championship

Come see one of the most fun Cosplay contests around on Saturday night at 7pm at the MGC Main Stage! With prizes for the best male, female, and group costumes, this is a fun event to watch or participate in! Entry for main categories is free. Want to be a contestant? This year, we’re pre-judging the entrants to help ensure the smooth operation of our tournament! Stop by our Cosplay HQ on the second floor during the day to register (12pm-2pm or 4pm-6pm). Then return at 6:45pm near the Main Stage to be ready for the finals!

Craftsmanship/ Quality – Level of complexity and skill required to construct, diversity of materials used, how much of it is custom made

Accuracy/ Novelty – The degree to which the costume is true to the source material, or to which a unique portrayal is given

Midwest Pinball Championship

Our yearly tournament returns! 80 players face off in two separate qualifying sessions, with the top 12 from each session moving on to the finals to determine who is the best pinball player at the MGC! 

Pre-registration opens on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 12:00 PM (NOON) on the MGC website. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email from MGC and another email from Rachel a few days later with additional information.

• Open tournament limited to 80 players.
• 40 Player limit for each qualifying session, top 12 of each session make finals.
•  Each player can only play in one of the qualifying sessions, not both.

PLEASE PURCHASE YOUR MGC TICKET ONLINE PRIOR TO THE EVENT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE IN THE 9:00 AM GROUP.

Midwest Tetris Championship

This is the Classic Tetris World Championship Midwest Regional! Competitors will play NES Tetris A-Type and try to get the highest score possible. Qualifying takes place Saturday 11:00am – 5:00pm and Sunday 10:00am – 12:00pm. After the qualifying round, players with the top 12 scores* will advance to the Top 12 round on Sunday. NES World Series

In a throwback to the Nintendo World Championship finals event from the 90’s, compete against random competitors in a three strikes and you’re out style tournament. However, you won’t be competing on the NWC game, but rather a surprise NES black box series game. So prepare for anything! Be sure to show up early to sign up.

PinGolf

Golf… with pinball machines? It’s a fun way to play! Each game has a goal, and you get one “stroke” for each ball you play on your way to get that goal. You may have to play two games to score high enough, or you may get it on your first ball! You will get to pick which half of the field you are going to play on, so choose wisely! As always, play as many times as you want, as long as time allows! All entries must be COMPLETED by 11:30 pm. In the case of a tie for first, those players will move to a single ball play-off at that time, with the winner placing top! Top 4 winners receive a trophy!

Pokemon – Trainer Battles

Pick your squad, grab a spot on stage, and battle other contenders for your chance to be Block House’s gym leader. In the initial tournament, the winner is determined as the first gym leader of the day. Throughout the rest of the event, players can challenge the top player to try and take their spot. The trainer in the gym leader spot by the end of the event is crowned Block House’s champion.

Pokemon TCG Tournament

Do you want to be the very best? Like no one ever was? Win a pack with each win! To train them is my cause!!!! Pokemon! …er, sorry, I got carried away there. You gotta beat all the other Pokemasters at the Midwest Gaming Classic in this single elimination tournament! Every round you make it through, you win a pack! Who will evolve into the ultimate Pokemaster!

Rush 2049: Stunt Mode (Dreamcast)

Do as many stunts as you can in 5 minutes! The top four qualifying scores will face off in a single 5-minute stunt mode online, with the top score being declared the winner!

Samba de Amigo (Dreamcast)

Get the highest score while shaking your maracas to Livin’ La Vida Loca on hard mode! The top four players will shake their maracas in head-to-head competition in a single-elimination bracket to determine who is the winner! 

Smash Ultimate: Take the Crown

Test your skills against a Smash Ultimate professional from 26 Rising–the premier, Michigan-based Esports organization! Challengers that participate in Block House’s Take the Crown event have the opportunity to dethrone one of the game’s greatest competitors. Through a standard competitive match on stage, players of all skill levels can experience what competing at the highest level is like. To the victor go the spoils. Win prizes and take a shot at the crown.

Sonic Adventure 2 (Gamecube)

Race to get the best time as you blast your way through City Escape! The top three scores will face off on the stage to determine who is the fastest!

Speed Runners Tournament

In a city filled with superheroes, getting to crimes becomes a competition on its own. Fortunately there are enough rockets, bombs, grappling hooks, spikes, and other goodies lying around — to make the competition fun and fast. Welcome to SpeedRunners. SpeedRunners is a 4 player competitive platformer with grappling hooks, power-ups, and interactive environments. Run, jump, swing around, fire rockets, grapple onto people to knock them off screen.

Splendor Tournament

Splendor is a game of chip-collecting and card development. Players are merchants of the Renaissance trying to buy gem mines, means of transportation, shops—all in order to acquire the most prestige points. If you’re wealthy enough, you might even receive a visit from a noble at some point, which of course will further increase your prestige.

Star Fox Competition Cart (SNES)

Fly through this competition cart and blast your way to the top of the leader board! If you’re one of the top 4, you’ll have to do it once more on the stage, with the winner taking home the prize!

Super Monkey Ball: Monkey Target (GameCube)

Play the Monkey Target mini-game in Super Monkey Ball and land one of the top scores! The top four qualifiers will face off on stage to determine who is the best Monkey of all! (If you saw this listed as Monkey Ball 2, it was as an error, the rules always stated Super Monkey Ball, sorry for any confusion!!)

Super Smash Bros Amiibo Tournament

Bring your best trained Amiibo figures to our 7th annual MIDWEST AMIIBO CHAMPIONSHIP!  Watch as Amiibo controlled CPUS duke it out for the right to be crowned champion! Figures must be formatted for SUPER SMASH BROS ULTIMATE.  Figures from Smash Wii U won’t work. Rounds will be 2 minutes with 3 stock.  The tournament will be single elimination. Amiibos trained with spirits are welcome, but no special powers please (i.e. giant, metal, etc)!  Sign up begins 30 minutes prior to the start time.

Tetris 100 Lines Sprint

Do you have a need for Tetris speed? Race against other competitors in this tournament where only the fastest to clear 100 lines advance! Players start at level 0 and face off 1 vs. 1 in this double elimination tournament.

Ticket to Ride Tournament

Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure in which players collect and play matching train cards to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Area control game where you collect train cards and use them to claim routes on a map to earn points.

Leap for your life in this timed tournament of hopping hilarity! How quickly can you get 3 frogs to the goal in this Atari 2600 classic? Gotta hop fast!

Timed Pac-Man (2600)

I got a Pac-Man fever, and the only prescription is more Pac-Man! How fast can you clear a screen of Pac-Man for the Atari 2600? Compete against others in this tournament where the only score that matters is time.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 (Dreamcast)

Shred your way to the top of the leader board in a 2 minute Time Attack in the Hanger! The top four players will take their skills to the stage for a single attempt to score the highest!

Tricky Towers Tournament

With your brilliant robe and magic powers, it’s time to build some Tricky Towers! Tricky Towers is a multiplayer physics-based tower building game. In a game of Tricky Towers you stack your bricks to create a stable tower and try to topple those of your opponents. To spice it up you can cast magic to support your structure and fend off the dark spells of your rivals in this frantic physics party game.

Typing of the Dead (Dreamcast)

Italy is being overrun with zombies, and G has gone missing! Take this, um, keyboard, to battle the hordes of zombies and find the missing agent! Cows are watching how you drive! Egg boiled in a hot spring! Body double whopper with knees, no mail! These are just a few of the nonsensical phrases that will flash on the screen for you to type as fast as you can in order to defeat the zombies before they reach you!

Warhammer 40K Warpstorm Open GT

Warhammer 40,000, the thrilling hobby of tabletop wargaming! • 2000 point armies
• 3 rounds on day 1, check-in is 830am, start time is 930am

• Armies must be “Battle Ready”  to get the 10 in-game points.
• Battle Ready models have their main areas colored and a simple finish on their bases.
• Additional fee for tournament entry.

Wii Sports Home Run Derby (Wii)

How often can you get the words Home Run to appear, and how far can those shots go? That’s what we’ll be finding out with our Home Run Derby contest from Wii Sports! Winner scores the most home runs out of ten. In the likely case of a tie, total feet of all home runs will serve as the tiebreaker!

Wingspan Tournament

You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth: A competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game played over four rounds. Yu-Gi-Oh: Standard Format

Do you think you have what it takes to become the king of games? Playing along with the standard format means you can use cards from as early as the very first set of Yu-Gi-Oh!, In addition, you must also abide by Konami’s Forbidden and Limited List (https://www.yugioh-card.com/uk/limited/). There you will see what cards you can and cannot use. The winner of this tournament will receive a commissioned piece of them with their favorite card by featured artist Archie Cunningham!
